Some 10GHz tests during a QSO party have been conducted some days ago… The objective was to test the practical usability of a SDR on a mountaintop. Overall it was successful with a humble eeepc900 (marginally) getting the job done, running PowerSDR (configured so as to keep CPU utilization as low as possible). A temporary beacon located about 17km away was the target. All the setup worked flawlessly (at least on the receive side, tx next time!). My main concern was the computer’s screen visibility under the sunlight (hence the crude-made hood around the screen). Fortunately it was much more visible than I anticipated!
